Conditions We Treat
We assist patients who have sleep disorders like sleep apnea, insomnia, or narcolepsy. We also help with pediatric sleep problems that can contribute to cases of ADHD that causes children to suffer from attention problems and behavior issues.
Sleep apnea – one of the more common sleep disorders we treat – occurs when your breathing pauses several times throughout the night. Sometimes, the intermissions in your respiration will last between 10 to 20 seconds and will happen anywhere between five to 30 times or more within an hour. For children, we diagnose this sleep disorder when breathing stops one or more times per hour.
Insomnia is a condition we treat at our sleep clinic, and it occurs when you have trouble falling asleep or remaining asleep. It may arise from stress, endocrine problems, chronic pain, or certain medications. It may lead to you experiencing frequent headaches or feeling tired during the day. You might notice you have difficulty focusing too.
Another condition a sleep doctor from our center may treat is narcolepsy, which is an issue that happens when your brain’s sleep and wake cycle doesn’t function like normal. You could fall asleep randomly or experience hallucinations. You might yell out in your sleep.
We treat pediatric sleep problems like insomnia. Both ADHD and autism can make it hard for a child to fall asleep. The opposite is true as well – sleep problems can enhance the symptoms of these conditions during the day. In some children, when they don’t sleep enough or get quality sleep, they experience symptoms similar to ADHD like issues concentrating.
Other treatments for sleep disorders provided by our sleep clinic include a CPAP or BiPAP, lifestyle changes, or medications. Sometimes, we take more than one approach to optimize your sleep and improve your quality of life, reducing occurrences of memory problems, headaches, and difficulty concentrating.
